OUR PASTOR
Dr. John Henry Brown was born October 24, in Leland, NC. After having received his high school diploma through Lincoln and Leland High Schools, he completed four years of Cape Fear Annual Conference Studies, which included an advance class on the Holy Bible and Church Administration. He received his Bachelor, Master of Arts Degrees and Doctorate Degree in Theology at Southwest Bible College and Seminary in Louisiana.
Having accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1980, he was led into the Ministry by the Holy Spirit; wherein, he preached his initial sermon in November of 1987. In September 1989, Dr. Brown was ordained as a Deacon in the Ministry, which was followed by his ordination as an Elder in the Ministry in October 1992.
Dr. Brown’s previous appointments were St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church, Shallotte, NC; St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, Southport, NC and St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church, Whiteville, NC. He presently serves as Pastor at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, located in the Snowfield section of Leland, NC, where he has served faithfully for twenty-five years.
His hobbies are reading, walking, talking, all types of sports, and of course sharing the Word of God every chance he gets. Pastor Brown also has a gift of giving and has been a blessing to many people and many churches in his community and surrounding areas.
Preaching and teaching is what he loves to do best. He is an anointed Man of God. Dr. Brown’s advice to everyone is: Love the Lord with all your heart and treat people the way that you would like them to treat you. He often reminds us that, “Love is not love, until you give it away”. He leads by example and is a role model for all people. He is married to Lynda Nichols Brown and together they parent four daughters and one son and enjoy the blessings of 12 grandchildren.

OUR 1st LADY
First Lady Lynda N. Brown was born on July 3, in Wilmington, NC.. She is the second of four children. A graduate of Acme-Delco High School, she continued her education at NCA&T State University and graduated Cum Laude from Shaw University with a BS Degree in Public Administration. She retired from New Hanover Human Relations Commission after 22 years of service.
First Lady Brown serves faithfully as the President of the Mass Choir and Chairperson of the Women’s Department. As President of the Mass Choir, it is her desire that this choir will do more than just sing on its appointed Sunday, but that its members will be true ministers of music.
As Chairperson of the Women’s Department, her goal is for the women of God to develop godly character to become leaders who are prepared to meet the ever-changing challenges of our society and to encourage women to develop wholesome friendships. She is a friend to the members of New Hope, and her smile, her great sense of humor, and her loving spirit are just a few of her wonderful qualities that God uses to build up the body. She loves her husband and is his “number one” supporter and works to help bring about the vision that God has given to him for New Hope. She stands by her man.
Lady Brown enjoys shopping, cleaning, listening to gospel music, traveling and crafting. She also enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren.
